long way home

Who thinks that today is a good day for a free song? I do! Alex Masters is a singer/songwriter with a pretty great voice. On her website, you can download a new song every month. So if I were you I’d head right over there and join in on this awesome-ness. Her song for May is Only I Do, but due to some technical difficulties, I’m going to share another one her songs “Long Way Home.” (grr.. on a side note, if anyone knows of a good music player to use with wordpress you’d probably be my hero!)

I’ve been listening to this all day as I pack for a weekend in Eau Claire. My brother is graduating tomorrow and we’ve got all sorts of family festivities going on to keep us busy!

r.sydowdesign on facebook

What?! You’re thinking, how exciting!!! Well, maybe that’s not exactly what you’re thinking… but a little forced enthusiasm never hurt anybody. :) Truth is, r.sydowdesign has actually been on facebook for a while but someone finally got their butt in gear and did something about it.

This means that I will be posting on {facebook} when there’s new and exciting bloggy stuff for you to check out. I do hope that you’ll stop by and say ‘ello! I also have a link over there to the right to sign up with bloglovin’. No more wondering when there’s something new, you can now just get a lovely email telling you so!

It’s. Just. That. Simple.

As always, thanks for being awesome!

banquet flowers

I thought I’d share some of the flowers that I put together for Banquet. BIG thanks to my dear sister who was so willing to help me out when I wanted to take pictures. :)

I reallllllllllllly like boutonnieres! (And I’m also really not sure if I ever spell that word right…) But I think that more people should be wearing them on a regular basis. You know, add a little flower to your outfit. … feel free to let me know if that idea EVER takes off. In the meantime, I will just continue to make a a pretty little flower {board} and dream of that day.

I’m not one who always wants them, but I think that every girl deserves to get flowers once in awhile! I have some of the leftover flowers sitting on my dresser and they just look very lovely. They actually haven’t completely died yet. …BUT… *Confession time* I like dead flowers. Is that weird? ok, don’t answer that. I actually do have more than a few dead flowers in vases around my room. One of these days I will get around to sharing that with you. For now it’s back to work!

a rainy day and girls in dresses

We had another rainy banquet… anyone remember last year??? Well, that was nothing compared to yesterday! It wasn’t bad until about an hour before pictures started. Then it started to rain… and it rained and it rained and then it POURED! Look at all those awesome moms- they had a nice little unbrella tunnel going on.

After braving the rain, they were able to spend the rest of the evening enjoying dinner at a golf course and in the gym for after-banquet. Decorating was awesome at both places- well done juniors and parents!

Once I found this little cutie, I just had to get a few (or more than a few) shots of her. She was so willing to pose for the camera and she spent the evening with my phone just taking all sorts of pictures too!

I think everyone had a good time despite all the rain! And thanks for being up for all the photo-taking! :)

Look at my little brother and sister looking all fancy!

I picked out some of my favorite shots of the night. I will be posting the rest of them soon! Shout out to Nichole for letting me borrow your camera- you rock!

color my world… white!

Part eight in the color series. WHITE [hwahyt, wahyt]
A color without hue at one extreme end of the scale of grays, opposite to black.
A white surface reflects light of all hues completely and diffusely. Most so-called
whites are very light grays: fresh snow, for example, reflects about 80 percent of
the incident light, but to be strictly white, snow would have to reflect 100 percent
of the incident light. It is the ultimate limit of a series of shades of any color.

White is a color of purity. It represents light, innocence, simplicity and humility. White is a popular color in decorating as it goes with everything. Doctors, nurses and others in medical professions often wear white as a symbol of sterility. A white flag is the universal symbol for a truce. And in ancient Greece, they used to wear white to bed to guarantee good dreams.

friday tunes

I just could not pick which song to share with you today, so I’ve decided that I’m going to be rebellious and throw TWO songs at you! I know, it’s just crazy.

First up is Some Die Young by LALEH.

Then we’ll throw in a little country, cuz I don’t just like this song a little bit– I like this song a LOT bit.

glitter.glitter.glitter.

I am currently going through a crazy, sparkly, glitter phase. I started a {board} and have been pinning away like a glitter maniac over here. Its getting to be a bit of an obsession- but once you start it’s just so hard to stop! I think I may need to have my own glitter photoshoot soon. Any volunteers??!

I am soooo in love with this {dress}. It was designed by Christian Dior in 1954 and I want it! And I want an occasion to wear all this glittery awesomeness!

images from here, here and here

If you would like to add to my glittery collection send me an email and I would love to make you a contributor to my {pinterest board}. Like the typeface used here? You can thank Bethany from Rinse. Repeat. for sharing the love. You can download it {here}.

I also found some pretty sparkly backgrounds for you here and here.

Enjoy and have a sparkly Tuesday!

color my world… pink!

Part seven in the color series. PINK [pingk]
a color varying from light crimson to pale reddish purple

Pink is normally associated with femininity and is also thought of as a childlike and innocent color. It is the universal color for love and romance. Pink is calming and relaxing, some prisons will even use pink tones to diffuse aggressive and violent behavior. Wearing the color pink will present yourself as a calm and peaceful person. A pink carnation sends the message that “I will never forget you”. It is the international color for the breast cancer campaign. And in color psychology, pink is a positive color that gives a sign of hope.

Check out this super awesome {pink wedding} - I am totally digging all the bright colors!

plans

As I was jumping around from song to song on YouTube, I came across this one by Kimmy Reader. How much do you love her accent! You can also check out her website and download some of her other songs for free- and who doesn’t love free music!? What a perfect way to start off the weekend.

I’ve been feeling particularly crafty this past week and have been working like crazy on a couple of projects over here. Stay tuned and I’ll get to sharing them with you.

Have a wonderfully awesome weekend!

color my world… purple!

Part six in the color series. VIOLET [vahy-uh-lit] we’re going to be calling it purple today!
reddish-blue, a color at the opposite end of the visible
spectrum from red, an effect of light with a wavelength
between 400 and 450 nm.

Purple is a color of royalty. The stability of blue and the energy of red are combined to form this pleasing color. Purple also symbolizes mystery and magic. If stuck in the blues or sad, use the color purple to help reenergize. Purple helps encourage creativity and sparks imagination. It is often viewed as an artificial color because of it’s rarity in nature. If purple is your favorite color, it may mean that you are kindly and just, self-sacrificing, a visionary, creative and an inspirational leader with strong mentally.

Here’s another fun little {quiz} for you! Leave a comment and let me know what color your soul is painted.

color my world… blue!

Part five in the color series. BLUE [bloo]
the pure color of a clear sky; the primary color between green and
violet in the visible spectrum, an effect of light with a wavelength
between 450 and 500 nm.

If blue is your favorite color, well, then you’re not alone! It’s one of the most popular. Blue produces a calming and soothing effect. You’ll notice that not many restaurants use blue to promote their business as blue can suppress appetite. Apparently, you will also be more productive in a blue room. While not the most ideal color for marketing food, it is often used to sell products that represent cleanliness. Blue stands for love and thus a bride will often have “something blue” on her wedding day. Dark blue can represent power, loyalty and seriousness. Back in the day, it was said that witches disliked the color, so blue was worn to keep them away. It also refers to a sad or depressed mood.

Don’t forget to send your {colors} in!

glittery

I hope everyone enjoyed a nice Easter weekend. We hadn’t colored Easter eggs in awhile, but this year I wanted to do something different. So I pulled out the glitter and glitterized some eggs! I rather like how they turned out and they definitely added a little sparkle to our table.

What have you found to be the best way to decorate eggs?

please help. send color.

I am hoping that you can help me out. As I’m going through all these color posts, I am definitely feeling inspired by the rainbows that I see everywhere! That’s where you come in, I’d love to see the rainbows in your life. Grab your camera and go look around. Take a picture (or two or three!) and send them to me at rachel.sydow@gmail.com. I’d like to collect all your pictures and post them so we can all be inspired by the colors that are everywhere.

Yes, these really are all my socks- I don’t believe in boring old white! :)
